  • International cooperation projects and research on pediatric HIV in Equatorial Guinea, Mexico, Guatemala, and Uganda.

2021

  • Signing of the Collaboration Agreement with the Association of Hoteliers of Spain to support our research.
  • Training and defense of the Final Master's Project "Study of HIV in a cohort of infected individuals in Equatorial Guinea" (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Complutense University of Madrid), presented by Judit Ventosa.
  • Publication of initial results on ultrasensitive CHIP with clinical samples and recent infection panel at the GESIDA (national) and CROI (international) congresses.
  • Meeting with the Vice Minister of Equatorial Guinea for the transfer of results and planning of new projects to improve the HIV epidemiological situation in the country.

2020

2019

  • Signing of the 4th renewal of the Annual Collaboration Agreement with Bomberos Ayudan Association to support our research.
  • Training and defense of Bachelor's Degree Projects (UAH) and Master's Thesis Projects (UCM) in the laboratory.
  • Transfer of resistance and viral variant results to clinicians in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).
  • Publication of the first paper of the DRC project
  • Start of the Equatorial Guinea Project with the collaboration of the National Center for Tropical Medicine of ISCIII and the support of UNICEF

2018

  • Institutional support from the Department of Social Services, Immigration, and Development Cooperation of the Tres Cantos-Madrid City Council for HIV research conducted in our laboratory

  • We have transferred the first reports with results of resistances and viral variants to clinicians in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).
  • Integration into the international CYTED-PLANTAIDS Project (Pediatric Network for Prevention, Early Detection, and Treatment of HIV in Children in Latin America of the Intergovernmental Science and Technology Program to promote cooperation in Research and Innovation for the Development of Latin America.
  • The virological study project of HIV in children in Ecuador obtained a support certificate from the coordinator of the CYTED-PLANTAIDS network, from the Coordinator of the National Pediatric HIV Cohort in Spain (CORISPe), from the coordinator of the Cohort of children with HIV and the Cohort of vertical transmission of the virus in the Community of Madrid, from the Coordinator of the International Cooperation Group of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Infectiology, and from the Ethics Committee and IRYCIS of the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid.
  • Presentation of 8 communications with our results at an international Congress in Boston (CROI), and at several national congresses (SEIMC, GESIDA).

2017

  • Launch of the "Que cumplan muchos más" campaign.
  • Acceptance of 7 publications in international journals.
  • Initiation of collaboration with Monkole Hospital in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) for the study of early HIV diagnosis, early detection of treatment failures, and resistances in children using new point-of-care (POC) techniques.
  • We receive the first shipment of samples from Kinshasa.
  • Defense of a Master's Thesis (UCM).

2015

  • Opening of the laboratory to social networks Facebook and Twitter.
  • Collaboration in the drafting of the Consensus Document on Antiretroviral Treatment in Children and Adolescents with HIV Infection (National AIDS Plan, Spanish Association of Pediatrics, Spanish Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases), the Guidelines for Antiretroviral Resistance in HIV 2016 (AIDS Research Network), and the Document for the Spanish Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (Spanish Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases): Diagnosis of HIV Infection in Children Born to HIV-Positive Mothers.
  • Signing of an Agreement with Bomberos Ayudan and alliance with King's College de Soto de Viñuelas to support us in fundraising.
  • Involvement of the Club de Creativos and young and senior advertisers to design the advertising campaign "Que cumplan muchos más".

2014

  • Launch of the crowdfunding campaign (Precipita Platform, Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, FECYT).
  • Gillead II Fellowship Program GLD1400306 Award. Project "Optimization of a new molecular assay for quantitative HIV-1 early infant diagnosis in all HIV-1 variants using two drops of blood".
  • Appointment to the Scientific Committee of CoRISPe.

2013

  • Commencement of virological study in HIV-positive pregnant women in Equatorial Guinea using dried blood spots in collaboration with the National Center for Tropical Medicine-ISCIII, with the Ministry of Health of Equatorial Guinea, and with pediatricians from hospitals in Madrid.
  • Signing of an agreement with the Sandoval Health Center in Madrid for the transfer of samples after obtaining informed consent from patients for our research.

2012

  • First doctoral thesis defended in the laboratory. Extraordinary doctoral award in the Area of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
  • Inclusion as a research group in the National Cohort of Children and Adolescents Infected with HIV (CoRISPe).
  • First study of early diagnosis of HIV in dried blood spots in children from Equatorial Guinea. DODOT Award.
  • Joining the Laboratory Group of the Technical Cooperation Network on HIV Drug Resistance in Latin America and the Caribbean (HIVDR TCN LAC), coordinated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and supported by HIV/AIDS Programs and Governments of Latin America and the Caribbean to provide technical assistance to HIV laboratories in Latin America.

2009

  • Start of the characterization study of HIV variants through phylogenetic analysis and virological failure in non-B variants in infected adults from the National Cohort of the AIDS Research Network (CoRIS).
  • Study of drug resistance to antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and HIV variants in children from Honduras and El Salvador.
  • Inclusion in Group 33 of the Biomedical Research Networking Centre on Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP). Immigration and Health Subprogram.
  • Study of ARV resistance and HIV variants in children from The Bronx (New York, USA).
  • Agreement with the Global Fund and the Ministry of Health of El Salvador for the first study on primary ARV resistance in adults in that country. Training activities, specialized consultancy, and technology transfer.
  • Bioentrepreneurs Training Program “BIOCAMPUS 2011”. Organized by Genoma España.

2008

  • Establishment of the HIV Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory (EpiMolVIH) for HIV research.
  • Inclusion in the Ramón y Cajal Institute for Health Research (IRYCIS) - Ramón y Cajal Hospital. Research group associated with the Microbiology and Parasitology Service.
  • Inclusion in Group 33 of the Biomedical Research Networking Centre on Epidemiology and Public Health (CIBERESP). Immigration and Health Subprogram.
  • Commencement of collaboration with the Cohort of HIV-infected children and adolescents in Madrid, integrated into the National Cohort (CoRISPe). We began virological study of HIV (variants and resistances) in pediatric patients under clinical follow-up in the Community of Madrid up to the present.
  • Initiation of collaboration with the Spanish National AIDS Plan for training Latin American clinicians (Esther Project) up to the present.
